Ask Newcastle where to find a proper stottie and plenty of people will point you towards Pink Lane. The street began life in the 13th century as part of Newcastle's town walls, later gained a rather colourful reputation, and is now home to what the Good Food Guide described as widely considered to be the best independent artisanal bakery in Newcastle.

Pink Lane Bakery has grown well beyond its original street. Its skilled teams now bake for shops in Newcastle city centre, on Gosforth High Street, on Acorn Road in Jesmond, where there is a sit-in café, and most recently in Morpeth.

The range is a celebration of the baker's craft: real sourdough and speciality breads, stotties baked fresh every morning, laminated pastries including famous almond croissants and pastel de nata, cinnamon buns, cakes, and renowned sausage rolls, pies and pasties, with plenty of vegan and veggie options.

In autumn 2025 the bakery brought its bakes to Fenwick Newcastle, with a core range of sourdough, pastries, pies, sausage rolls and cakes in the food hall every day, right by the deli counter. The team said Fenwick was a place they had long admired and were proud to be part of.

This summer brought perhaps the cutest outpost yet. From 20 July to 31 August 2026, Pink Lane joined NE1's Tiny Toon, a free miniature play village in Old Eldon Square, with a child-sized bakery complete with a tiny counter and shelves for pretend bakes. The bakery called it "Not quite a fifth shop, but it is our smallest one yet."

For those who want to learn the secrets, the baking and cookery school runs classes including an introduction to sourdough, croissant making and the art of lamination, and a pie and savoury workshop led by the head of the savouries team.

Pink Lane keeps its community close. It sponsors Gosforth Bohemians women's football and gives the profits from a product chosen each month to a cause dear to one of the team. Celebration cakes are made by pastry chefs in Gosforth, with zero carbon delivery available, and well-behaved dogs are welcome in every shop.

Shop locations, celebration cakes and baking classes can all be found on the Pink Lane Bakery website.
