For more than ten years Yoga x Life has been quietly helping Newcastle breathe a little easier, and the studio has now settled into a new home at 51 Lime Street in the Ouseburn. Visitors use a dedicated side entrance marked with Yoga x Life signage and head upstairs to the mezzanine, where a shower and cafe space are available and treatments continue.

The studio's story begins with founder Chris Jackson, who first heard about yoga at a music festival in Northumberland. Living in a rural part of Yorkshire at the time, he caught an hour-long bus every week to reach the only class he could find. When he later moved to Newcastle, he found a choice of classes almost every day of the week and met the teachers who would mentor him.

Before the first studio opened, Chris and his fellow teachers were already teaching full time across three collectives and a long list of church halls, travelling between classes and fitting around other venues' schedules. Having their own space meant early morning classes, weekend events and trainings, and time in the afternoons to work with community and charity groups.

The business began life as YogaTherapies before changing its name to Yoga x Life, reflecting a belief that yoga is at its most powerful when it is woven into everyday life rather than reached for only in stressful moments. In an interview with Yogamatters, Chris said the studio is often complimented on the diversity of its community and the welcome people receive.

Today the timetable covers weekly yoga, movement and breathwork, alongside workshops, foundation and deepening series, retreats and teacher training pathways. The studio describes its memberships as intentionally simple, with unlimited access to the weekly schedule so that regular practice feels genuinely accessible.

Yoga x Life has also opened its doors to the wider city. In May 2025 it took part in The Late Shows, the North East's after-hours culture festival, with a wellness drop-in evening of mindfulness, movement and community open to all levels.

The cafe, collaborations, workplace programmes and community projects are all part of what the team calls its ecosystem: a place to practise, but also to meet and exchange ideas.

New students can start with a 14-day trial, and the full timetable, events and retreats are listed on the Yoga x Life website.
